Isaac Success came off the bench to help Nigeria qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations following a 1-1 draw in South Africa.

The Watford striker won his third international cap when he came on as 69th-minute replacement for Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho as the qualifying draw saw the Super Eagles remain top of Group E.

The visitors, who do not have former Hornets striker Odion Ighalo in their squad due to injury, took the lead in the 10th when a Samuel Kalu cross deflected into the net off the shoulder of Buhlebuyeza Mkhwanazi.

But the South Africans levelled in the 26th minute as Lebogang Mothiba was left with a straightforward tap in after being set up by Percy Tau.

Nigeria were relatively content to sit on the draw after the break, although Kenneth Omeruo put a free header narrowly wide while Ahmed Musa was unfortunate to see a goal ruled out for offside with seven minutes remaining.

Success, who was rewarded for his good start to the season for the Hornets with a recall to the national squad last month, will now be hoping to feature in a friendly against Uganda on Tuesday.
