ARSENE WENGER has paid tribute to the performances of emerging talent Jack Wilshere after a series of impressive performances in pre-season.

The 16-year-old midfielder has featured in each of Arsenal's three games so far and scored his first goals for the club with a brace in the side's 10-2 win over Burgenland yesterday.

The winger laid on a further three goals for his team-mates, while he also excelled against Barnet and Szombathelyi in the team's other two games, attracting praise from a number of observers.

Wenger joined those singing the youngster's praises but refused to get too carried away with the plaudits, preferring to focus on the team's overall performance.

"He is 16-years old and he has the qualities a lot of young players have," said the Frenchman. "The team played well and I would not like to pick out one player.

"But the fact that Jack is with us tells you I rate him highly. He is the only 16 year-old player I have brought here."
