THERE has been extra training at Waltham Abbey FC during the fight for a first win of the football season.

Now boss Paul Wickenden has also recruited new players, in order to add bite up front in the Abbotts’ Ryman one north campaign.

He told Guardian Series Sport that he hopes these two measures will yield results fast, starting with Redbridge at Capershotts, this weekend.

“It’s vital we get three points against Redbridge. We’ve said that to the players. We need wins in order to get on our way,” he said.

“We will keep on working, but we are getting there.”

Striker Kieron Ogunkoya has made an instant impact up front, netting two times in two games.

Wickenden started him alongside new Canvey Island loanee Ellis Skidmore, last Saturday.

Ogunkoya netted in the 2-2 home draw with Leyton, as did recent signing Denny Webb.

“Kieron has come in and done really well. Now we need to get him sharper,” said Wickenden.

“Ellis Skidmore has come on loan from Canvey Island. We have started with them up front before and I’ve no doubt we will start like that again, on Saturday.”

Abbey go into Saturday’s clash with Redbridge with four draws from seven games.

“It’s time for us to turn draws into wins,” said the boss. “We had two good opportunities to put the game past Leyton, but we did not take them.

“It's about belief.”
