Barnet came back twice to claim a 2-2 draw in their clash against fellow League Two strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Daggers opened the scoring in the first half as Michael Spillane headed home. But five minutes later the Bees drew level as Izale McLeod finished coolly.

In a scrappy second period neither side showed real quality but Dagenham went back in front through a Scott Doe header.

However, Barnet once against equalised and took a share of the spoils thanks to a fantastic strike from distance from Ben May.

Lawrie Sanchez made two changes to his Barnet side as Clovis Kamdjo and Dean Brill returned for the Bees in place of Sam Deering and Liam O’Brien.

There was only one switch to the Dagenham starting XI as Luke Howell missed out through injury. He was replaced by Scott Doe.

It was an even start to the contest and the first chance went to Barnet as McLeod saw a left footed effort easily stopped by Chris Lewington.

Sanchez’s side then came close to breaking the deadlock in the opening minutes. Mark Byrne swung in a corner and Ben May rose well and directed a header towards goal. Unfortunately for the Bees it was cleared off the line by Damien McCrory.

After a slow start the Daggers began to sustain pressure on the host’s goal. A series of long throws caused the Bees defence problems before Jon Nurse fired a shot into the side netting.

May again came close with a strike that required Lewington to save but after 25 minutes the visitors went ahead.

Medy Elito retrieved a free kick and skipped past two defenders before crossing. His delivery was met by the onrushing Spillane and the defender’s header beat Dean Brill in the Barnet goal.

Only two minutes later the Daggers came close to increasing their lead. Another good cross was headed goalwards by Mathieu Baudry only to see the ball strike the crossbar and then the post.

From the rebound John Akinde also hit the bar with a header but the Bees managed to escape.

The misses proved costly for the visitors as Barnet drew level with half an hour gone.

A through pass got McLeod in on goal and the striker showed compose to lift the ball over Lewington and into the net.

Following the equaliser Barnet continued to attack and Ricky Holmes sent a shot at goal which required Lewington to save.

The two sides went in level at the break but neither looked comfortable in defence during the opening 45 minutes.

After the restart Holmes fired over from a tight angle when he perhaps should have crossed for McLeod or May.

The Bees were the better side in the early stages of the second period and Byrne forced Lewington into a good reaction save.

Sanchez’s side continued to look the more dangerous going forward but were left frustrated by the linesman’s flag as McLeod was deemed to be offside twice in quick succession.

Dagenham had rarely threatened in the second period but with 20 minutes remaining they went back in front from a set piece.

A corner was whipped into the near post and Doe’s looping header drifted into the top corner of Brill’s net.

The Daggers held out for five minutes in the first half before Barnet drew level. In the second they held out for eight.

There didn’t seem too much on for May as the ball dropped for him 25 yards out. But the striker fired a shot which caught Lewington off guard and the ball bounced into the net.

The final ten minutes were frantic as both teams attempted to get the three points. Byrne fired over a late shot but neither side could find a winner and the game ended in a draw that didn’t help either move away from danger.

The Bees are back in action this Friday as they travel to Macclesfield Town while Dagenham face Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
