Stand-in Leyton Orient boss Andy Hessenthaler admitted club president Francesco Becchetti helped picked today's side.
Following a turbulent week off the pitch for the play-off chasing club, the O’s helped send east London neighbours Dagenham & Redbridge out of the Football League with a 3-2 win at Brisbane Road.
It was announced during the week Kevin Nolan had been relieved of his managerial duties, making him the seventh casualty of Becchetti’s short reign.
Rumours have circulated of the Italian owner making team selections and when quizzed after today's clash, Hessenthaler said the owner had played some part in this.
The former Gillingham boss said: “It was the staff who got together, Andy [Edwards], Webby [Peter Webb] and Richard Thomas along with the owner, I’ll be honest.
“We sat round a table and that is the team we put together.”
The 50-year-old added it did come as a surprise earlier in the week when it was announced Nolan, who was at the stadium for the game, would no longer be in charge of first-team affairs.
He said it had been the “toughest” week of his football career, but was pleased to get a positive out of it in the end with the victory.
“Nobody is bigger than the football club and I am pleased that we got a win for the fans,” he said.
“I feel for Kev. He’s come in and kept me with him and he is a good friend of mine, just like Ian [Hendon] was.
“It is strange, but it’s the strange world of football and it isn’t just happening at our football club and the owner has decided to make that change.
“I found things very hard this week, but we have to be professional and do a job, which I felt we did.”
Hessenthaler also said the focus for everyone at the club is the run-in with the League Two play-offs still in sight.
He said: “I don’t think we can look beyond anything other than the next game, which sounds cliché, but it is true.
“We’re playing on Tuesday against Plymouth, who will be full of confidence and difficult to beat.
“But we know what we have to do and we just have to make sure we put another performance together on Tuesday.”
