Leyton Orient boss Andy Hessenthaler said Jay Simpson is still a Leyton Orient player despite the increasing interest from Southend United.

Simpson once again did not take part in the match against Fulham, although did watch the game from the sidelines, after he missed Saturday’s game against Cheltenham.

But the 50-year-old once again said that last season’s top goalscorer isn’t available for selection.

“Jay is still our player isn’t he and is under contract with the football club.

“We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. At this present time, he is not available for selection,” added Hessenthaler.

He also mentioned to his knowledge he is currently not speaking to any other club.

But Southend boss Phil Brown had previously told BBC Sport: “Both clubs are talking and it’s in the hands of the financial directors at Orient and my chairman.

“It’s a case of watch this space. I’m hopeful that I’ll improve the squad, not just in that area but in others.”
