Leyton Orient continued their revival under Justin Edinburgh and made it a happy Christmas for their fans with a fourth successive victory in all competitions as they beat neighbours Dagenham & Redbridge 2-0 at Brisbane Road.

Second-half goals from Josh Coulson and Macauley Bonne secured the victory which sees the O’s sit 18th in the National Leaguer table, but they are now nine points clear of the drop zone.

Following Saturday’s 2-0 success at Maidstone United, Edinburgh made just the one change to his starting XI as Dan Happe replaced Bondz N’Gala at the back, while there was also a place on the bench for Freddy Moncur following his loan at Bishop’s Stortford.

The Daggers shaded the early chances, with Morgan Ferrier flicking a corner wide and then curling a shot high over Dean Brill’s goal, either side of David Mooney being unable to get his head on Jake Caprice’s whipped in cross by Sam Ling’s defensive header.

Neither side were able to gain the upper hand as the first half continued to unfold, with James Dayton firing wide after cutting in before Happe sent a free-kick over from 25 yards.

But the home side were to make the all-important breakthrough within five minutes of the restart when Coulson met a fine Dayton cross with a diving header to give the home side the upper hand.

Orient were in no mood to sit on their lead though, and were to double their advantage when Bonne slotted home from close range at the second attempt after being picked out by Dayton.

Dagenham were second best after the break but they did have a rare chance to get back into the game when Dan Sparkes fired into the side netting following Ferrier’s cross with 13 minutes remaining.

Dayton could have killed of any fading the hopes the visitors had but fired over after leading a charge downfield on the counter, before the last opening fell Dagenham’s way in injury time when Scott Doe’s deflected header hit the top of the crossbar.
