Leyton Orient’s four-game unbeaten run in the league came to an abrupt end this afternoon, as the O’s slipped to a 1-0 defeat away to Dover Athletic.

The O’s couldn’t repeat their FA Trophy heroics from a month ago, as Mitch Pinnock’s goal seven minutes from time secured the home team all three points, meaning Orient remain in 16th place in the National League.

The match was the only National League game to be played this afternoon, with many of the postponed fixtures falling foul of the adverse weather conditions which have caused havoc up and down the country in the last few days.

Justin Edinburgh made three changes to the side that played out a 3-3 draw with Gateshead last week, with Lamar Reynolds and Dan Holman coming into side for James Brophy, who dropped to the bench through illness, and Matt Harrold. Sam Ling made his first O’s start, with Joe Widdowson moving across to centre-back, after Dan Happe missed out through illness.

New signed Marvin Ekpiteta featured in the match-day squad for the first time, while Ebou Adams managed to recover from the knock he picked up in the FA Trophy last weekend to retain his place in the starting line-up.

After a quiet start to the game, it was Orient who created the first real chances on the 15 minute mark, with Josh Koroma having a free-kick saved and Craig Clay seeing a goal-bound header diverted over the bar by Dover’s Nortei Nortey. Another chance went begging for the O’s with ten minutes to play, as Macauley Bonne’s header was well saved and then moments later, the Orient top scorer fired wide having been played through on goal.

Dover started the second half brighter, with Dean Brill making a good save from Giancarlo Gallifuoco and on the hour mark, the home side went even closer, when Nortey saw an effort hit the woodwork.

Orient responded positively, with Holman seeing a low effort saved by Dover goalkeeper Mitch Walker, but the O’s were to rue their missed opportunities, as the home side scored the winner eight minutes from time.

Adebayo Azeez found Pinnock, who calmly slotted the ball into the top corner, to secure the home side all three points.
