Dean Brill has challenged Leyton Orient to go on another long unbeaten run after the O’s were condemned to their first league defeat of the season against Sutton United.

Going into the match at the Breyer Group Stadium, Orient had enjoyed a record breaking start to the campaign, which had seen them go 13 unbeaten for the first time in their history.

But Justin Edinburgh’s men were unable to extend that run to 14 games as Jonah Ayunga’s strike just three minutes after half-time handed Sutton a 1-0 win in East London, meaning Orient slipped down to second in the table following Salford City’s win over Maidenhead United.

Brill has been an ever present between the posts for the O’s this season, helping them keep five clean sheets in what has been a promising start to the campaign.

The experienced shot-stopper, who is focusing on his playing career at the present moment following Reece Ottley’s appointment as goalkeeping coach in the summer, knows what it takes to achieve promotion having been a part of the Luton Town squad which won League One in May 2005.

As such, the 32-year-old has challenged Orient to react in positive fashion by going on another long unbeaten run to further showcase their promotion credentials.

Speaking to Leyton Orient’s website after the defeat to Sutton, Brill said: “It was a tough game. They came here with a game plan to stifle the game and make it hard for us, which you can fully understand.

“But it’s up to us to rise against it and probably do a little bit better. We’re a bit disappointed in our performance today. 14 games with 13 undefeated is a great start and we’ll look to build again.

“There’s never a great time to concede. If we can get past that first ten or fifteen minutes, we know we can come on strong and we did as we put a bit of pressure on.

“But it was a poor goal for us to concede. Myself and my defenders are not happy with the way we conceded it. It’s a blow but another challenge for us to rise up to.”
