Dale Gorman has been named in the Northern Ireland Under-21 squad for their European Championship qualifying fixtures against Iceland and Slovakia.

The Leyton Orient midfielder was a part of the Northern Ireland squad which claimed a famous 2-1 win over Spain last month, boosting their chances of qualifying for the European Under-21 Championships.

Gorman captained the side in their friendly against Luxembourg just days before that historic win and will be hoping to add to his total of 12 caps for his country.

The upcoming fixtures for Northern Ireland could prove to be crucial in their hopes of qualifying for the European Championships next summer, with Slovakia their closest rivals for second spot.

Ian Baraclough’s side currently sit in third place in Group B and are just one point behind Slovakia in second, while Iceland sit one position below Northern Ireland in fourth.

Gorman moved to Orient following his release from Stevenage in the summer and has made six substitute appearances for the O’s, having missed the opening weeks of the season after continuing his recovery from a broken ankle.
