Justin Edinburgh was delighted with how his side controlled their match against AFC Fylde on Tuesday, a game in which the O’s were comfortable 2-0 winners.

The win saw Orient extend their winning run to eight games in all competitions, and the boss noted that his side had to be at their best to deal with the visitors, who are fighting for a playoff spot.

“We’ve come off the back of a tough, enduring game on Saturday,” Edinburgh said after the game. “That didn’t show in the start that we had to the game tonight. I think our first-half performance allowed us to control the second half and restrict Fylde to very few chances and I always thought we looked dangerous on the break.

“[The defending] had to be of the highest quality. It’s a team full of goals, they’ve got the top goal scorer in the division in [Danny] Rowe and they’ve got other dangerous players but we restricted them to very little.

“I think they probably had one long range effort in the end that Dean [Brill] had to save but other than that I didn’t feel that we ever looked under pressure. We knew that they’d have a fair amount of possession but we were comfortable with that and we never felt it hurt us and I’m delighted with the result.”

The O’s had Marvin Ekpiteta and Macauley Bonne to thank for the goals, both coming in the first half, and Edinburgh praised his side’s ability from set-pieces that has seen them score some important goals recently, including the opener in this game.

“We always look a threat from set-pieces and it’s something we pride ourselves on so it was another one and obviously we’re pleased with it and then Macca (Macauley Bonne) converted the penalty to see us through.

“We always speak about Bonne, he’s got a mental strength of the highest standard. I knew the one miss he’s had since he’s been here wouldn’t affect him so I had no doubts that when he stepped up he’d dispatch that.”

A competitive game at the Breyer Group Stadium saw eight bookings received between the two teams, three awarded during a particularly large shoving match involving Orient’s Craig Clay and Fylde’s Dan Bradley and Jordan Tunnicliffe, but Edinburgh didn’t see anything “nasty” in the game.

He said: “It was just competitive, I didn’t think it was nasty in any way. It was two teams going for an important prize so I’ve got no complaints with that at all.”

Edinburgh also issued a final message to the fans, stating how much the club needs them in this final run-in.

He said: “I’m delighted for everyone connected with the football club. I know it’s nervy but I just keep saying to these fans ‘don’t wait two or three minutes until the end’, when we need you, we need you.

“Embrace it and enjoy it. I know it’s difficult but we’ve got to make this a real fortress and intimidate the opposition.”

The O’s welcome four more teams to East London this season, but have to contend with a trip to Barnet this weekend, with kick-off at 3pm.
