Lee Angol has become Leyton Orient’s third signing of the summer, joining from Shrewsbury Town in a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old joins midfielder Josh Wright, signed from Bradford City, and fellow striker Conor Wilkinson, who moved from Dagenham & Redbridge, in moving to the Breyer Group Stadium this summer.

The addition to Orient’s attacking ranks is needed following the departures of last season’s star duo Macauley Bonne and Josh Koroma, who have joined Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town respectively.

Upon joining, Angol told the Leyton Orient club website: “I feel quite inspired to be joining the club. Everyone knows what Leyton Orient did last year, you can see what trajectory they are on, everyone knows how big of a club Leyton Orient are and they are on a mission to get back where they were, so I’m excited.”

Director of Football Martin Ling added: “We’ve been monitoring Lee for the last six months, he was one of the players we had on the target list in January when we thought there was a chance we could lose one of our strikers. He’s someone we’ve done all the due diligence on, he’s got a great attitude and is a good players and we’re pleased to have him on board.”

Angol began his career as an apprentice at Tottenham Hotspur, working under current O’s interim head coach Ross Embleton before moving to Wycombe Wanderers, where he had loan spells at Hendon, Maidenhead United and Boreham Wood.

He then moved to Luton Town but spent his only season there on loan at Boreham Wood once again, scoring 25 goals in 39 games for them in 2014/15, picking up the then-National League South side’s Player of the Season award.

Peterborough United then acquired Angol on a three-year deal and he netted twice on his debut, a 5-1 win against Oldham Athletic. Injury, though, limited his progress with Posh and he was loaned to National League outfit Lincoln City.

Six goals in 13 appearances with the Imps helped them secure promotion back to the Football League.

The striker then joined Mansfield Town, netting nine from 17 starts, and then joined Shrewsbury at the start of last season, where he scored three goals in 10 starts.
