Sam Ling is “buzzing” to have secured a one-year contract extension at Leyton Orient.

The defender further committed his future to the O’s by signing a deal that will keep him at the Breyer Group Stadium until 2021.

Ling, who re-joined the club from Dagenham & Redbridge in 2018 after initially being let go by the O’s, has stepped up well since the promotion to League Two and wants to put a stop-start 2018/19 campaign behind him.

Speaking to the club website, he said: “I’m buzzing [to have secured my future with the club]. As soon as I heard of the prospect of a new deal being put on the table I couldn’t wait to sign and put my name to another contract.

“I’ve been buzzing with my performances this season. Last season for me was very stop-start with injuries, I didn’t get much rhythm. Although the team achieved promotion and everything, individually I don’t think it was one of my best.

“I worked hard over the summer and hopefully now it’s showing in my performances this season.”

Ling’s efforts so far in the O’s first campaign back in the Football League earned him a nomination for the August Player of the Month, and although he was happy that his hard work didn’t go unnoticed, he think competition for the award is tough.

He said: “It’s nice to be noticed anywhere you go but out of all the boys that were nominated for that it could be any one of them. I think we’ve had some outstanding performers this season so far and long may that continue.

“Last season I didn’t get as many assists and goals as I would have liked so this season that’s a target that me, Ross [Embleton, Webby [Danny Webb] and Jobi [McAnuff] as well have put together. Whether it’s in a back four or back three I want to be contributing at either end of the pitch.

“I’d love to score [at the Breyer Group Stadium]. I never have done here and that would be massive for me. I can’t wait for that moment that I get a goal here at home.”
