Leyton Orient chief executive Danny Macklin has said he is “delighted” that supporters will be back in stadiums from next month.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has outlined plans for a return to a regionalised tier system from December 2 to combat the spread of coronavirus.
Outdoor venues in tier one areas – those considered lowest risk – will be permitted to admit up to 4,000 spectators to an event or allow 50 per cent capacity, whichever is lower.
In a statement on the Orient website, Macklin said: “We are of course delighted to hear the news today. Like you all, we await government advice regarding the tier level that The Breyer Stadium will be in initially placed in after lockdown ends.
We have been working behind the scenes to provide as safe environment as possible for fans. Once we are informed of the tier status we will enter into swift dialogue with our local Safety Advisory Group as they will be responsible for the approval to welcome fans back at a local level.
When fans can return we will of course aim to accommodate as many season card holders as possible – a ballot system will be put into place for each game and in the coming days we will announce more details on how that process will work.
We will strive to make the system as fair and straightforward as possible in these challenging times. Furthermore, we strongly expect streaming to be available for season card holders and fans unable to attend.
When attending the stadium fans will, of course, have to follow strict social distancing guidelines, staggered arrival and departure times, regular hand sanitising and the wearing of masks will be mandatory at all times.
We hope that today signals the swift and safe return of fans, we would like to thank the loyalty and support shown by our Season Card Holders.”
