ON-loan Wigan youngster Luke Ashworth is hoping that his time he spends with the Orient will stand him in good stead when he returns to the JJB next month, writes Craig Rodhouse.

Ashworth signed on a one month loan deal in August finally made his first appearance for the O's in the 4-2 victory over Southend on Tuesday. And the defender is hoping he can become a regular starter in the heart of Martin Ling's defence during the remainder of his time at Brisbane Road.

"Hopefully I can get a few more games under my belt now and get the experience I need from those games." said Ashworth "If the manager needs to play me then I feel ready, although I understand why I've not played in the last couple of league games because the defence has done very well to keep two cleansheets.

"But I will keep pushing hard to try and play as much as I can, and if I get another chance I'm ready to take it, even if it means coming on as a sub.

"Most of the time while I'm at Wigan I'm training with the first team, but it is better being involved down here at Orient because you are still with the team on a Saturday."

Ashworth also revealed that he has been very impressed with the standard of football at Brisbane Road and hasn't ruled out extending his spell with the O's when his current loan deal comes to an end.

He continued:"I've found the standard to be very good down here at Orient.

“Of course there are some very good players at Wigan because they are in the Premier League, but there are also some very good ones here at orient as well and the main thing for me is that Martin Ling likes to play passing football.

"I have found it really good so far and been enjoying the training, all the lads have beenvery good and helped me to settle in very quickly.

"I'm here for the month initially and we will have to see what happens after that, but I do see my future back at Wigan.

"But for now this is a great learning curve for me and I just want to make the most of it."
