Following on from last week’s positive performances, O’s manager Russell Slade believes his side are playing without the fear factor as they look to move off the foot of League One.

Saturday’s draw at Huddersfield was preceded by a narrow defeat at Blackburn, a fixture in which Orient took the game to their Premier League host for large spells before ultimately falling short.

The O’s are obviously not in a position they would want to be in regarding the league table but Slade believes the signs on the pitch are positive that his side can soon start to climb their way out of danger.

Speaking after the Huddersfield draw, he explained: “Very often you see teams when they are struggling or they are bottom of the league they are playing with a fear factor and they don’t trust each other on the pitch with the ball but I don’t think you saw that in my side today.

“I thought you saw a real trust in what we are trying to do. I thought you saw a reasonably disciplined performance and again we played with a little bit of quality at times.

“Not too many teams, I don’t think, will come to Huddersfield and open them up like we did at times.”

He continued: “I just think the two 90 minutes that we have played – we have lost one and drawn one – but the two 90 minute displays in terms of performance, you will get a performance if the attitude is right and the attitude has been spot on, it has been really good.

“We just have to keep that going now. That is two games that we have got to feel reasonably satisfied with in terms of our performance.”

While Slade feels his side have performed well of late, he conceded there was still a lot of work ahead and the task of moving up the table was not about to get any easier for the O’s.

He continued: “When you have not won a football match, every game is difficult. At the moment we are still looking for that vital win and it is all about belief really - me keeping belief in the players that they can do it.

“You saw that belief flooding back really simply when we were 2-1 down today and we showed quite clearly that we are not a bottom of the table team in terms of the ability that we have got in our side but we have to turn the football that we play into points and into goals.

“We need to be doing that quicker rather than later and hopefully we can start on Saturday.”
