Kevin Lisbie believes O’s fans will soon see the best of him after the striker opened his account for the E10 club with a goal at Huddersfield on Saturday.

Orient’s new number nine put himself in the right place to reduce the deficit at the Galpharm Stadium, before Ben Chorley fired in an injury time leveller.

The former Charlton forward has been in and out of the team since his arrival earlier this month but believes having played a few games and by putting in the extra graft, he will be able to put his fitness issues behind him.

Lisbie said: “I have always felt around the box I can get goals. I will do extra training when the lads have days off. I will come in and do a bit of running and get myself fit.

“I do believe in the next two to three games I will be back to my best and we can push on and hopefully I can grab some more goals on the way.”

And the 32-year-old was delighted to have scored his first goal for the club.

He added: “I think if you ask any striker what it means to score their first goal for your club it means everything to get off to a good start.

“I have had a few injuries but hopefully that is all behind me now and I can help this team climb up the table because I feel like we should do.”

Having joined the O’s with the season already well-established, Lisbie did not have the luxury of a proper pre-season campaign in which to build up his fitness.

Instead, he was thrown straight into the action, starting on his debut at another former club, Colchester, before playing a full 90 minutes against Bournemouth.

He didn’t feature against Oldham or Blackburn, but moved to praise his new manager for the way he has handled his injury and general fitness.

Speaking after the Huddersfield draw, Lisbie continued: “You ask anyone that doesn’t do pre-season, it takes them a while to get used to it.

“I played two games after not training at all and I felt my thigh a little bit – I felt a little niggle which you are going to get.

“I think the manager has managed it well. He didn’t put me on the bench the other day or play me because I couldn’t play.

“Looking forward to this game, I think the league is much more important and I think hopefully with this gaffer as well he will look at me and with a good few strikers here, I can take my time to bed into the side before I get my 100 per cent fitness.”

Looking ahead, Lisbie believes there are plenty of goals in the O’s team, acknowledging that while he doesn’t expect to start every match, there is a great deal of competition for places up front.

He said: “If you look at other teams, they would love to have the strike force that we have. I came here under no illusions that I would start every game but my main aim is to make sure that this team goes up the table.

He added: “Strikers sometimes dwell on their laurels but if you know you have got someone like myself or Cureton or Moons (David Mooney) on the bench then you know every game you have to give 110 per cent or the next game you won’t be playing.”
