Saturday’s victory over Bury saw Leyton Orient record their third win in a row as they continue to pull themselves away from the foot of the League One table.

The match against the Shakers saw club captain Stephan Dawson take on his former side for the first time since his arrival at Brisbane Road, taking up his accustomed role in the heart of the Orient midfield.

Dawson put in a typical all-action performance at the weekend and while he believes that spirits are high in the O’s camp, the 25-year-old insists Russell Slade’s men are not out of the woods yet.

Speaking after the 1-0 win, Dawson said: “I still have a lot of great friends at Bury and besides that I have a lot of respect for the club. It wasn’t pretty – I’ll be the first one to say that. It was brilliant just to get the win – three back-to-back now.

“We still aren’t out of it though. Let’s not forget that we are still in the bottom four which is still not good enough in my eyes because we should be doing better than that.

“But we have given ourselves a chance now after a disastrous start.”

He continued: “The spirits are high. Everyone is on a high. All credit to Bury, at times they put us under a lot of pressure but the fans were brilliant again.

“Although it wasn’t the most pleasing on the eye we still had a few chances to see out the game.

“It’s a 1-0 win I have been crying out for for a couple of weeks in my programme notes and I am delighted to get three points.”

The O’s are starting to put their poor start to the season behind them and it can be no coincidence that players are beginning to return from injury.

Dawson knows this is likely to mean increased competition for places but the skipper believes it doesn’t matter who Slade names in his starting XI.

“We are all in this together,” continued the captain. “It doesn’t matter what team he (the manager) puts out.”

“I am sure the players that are on the bench, like always, and the players that he puts out there, we all have to dig in together because we didn’t start well enough. We all know that it was a disastrous start.

“I believe we are kicking on and we have turned the corner now – ten points out of twelve. We still aren’t where we need to be but we are getting there.”
