While pre-season is undoubtedly about fitness, Leyton Orient fans may be a little concerned as the O’s were beaten 1-0 against Dartford – their second defeat against non-league opposition in seven days.

A goal from midfielder Danny Harris two minutes before the interval settled a match which saw few chances created throughout.

In the opening half, neither side looked on top of their game. Orient managed to work space down the left between Gary Sawyer and Dean Cox but when crosses were swung in, they never looked like being converted.

As an uneventful opening period was drawing to a close, Dartford went ahead.

Harris collected the ball on the left, moved into the middle of the pitch and released a fine strike past Orient goalkeeper Jamie Jones.

After the break Orient did improve but they still struggled to create a clear opportunity to grab and equaliser.

Last season’s top scorer Kevin Lisbie saw an effort saved by Dartford stopper Louis Wells after a good pass from new signing Michael Symes.

David Mooney then saw a shot saved as Orient pushed forward in search of a leveller.

Wells then had to be alert to block a placed strike from Cox, but Orient couldn’t break through and the match ended in defeat.

Slade will be hoping his side can put back-to-back defeats behind them when they visit Luton Town next weekend.
