East London Boxing Academy’s Zeeshan Ali was crowned London champion following success at the National Junior and Senior Development Championship’s on Saturday.
Ali was up against the unbeaten Sakhi Hussain from Dale Youth Boxing Club, which has produced talents like George Groves, a former super-middleweight world champion, and Olympic gold medallist James Degale.
Despite being the underdog, the East London fighter’s hard work in the build up to the fight paid off as he condemned Hussain to his first defeat after claiming the win in the third round.
Ali wasn’t the only East London fighter who enjoyed success over the weekend, with club captain Jack Daly becoming a four time London champion in the senior cruiserweight division.
Elsewhere, Uzair Maqbool claimed victory in the junior class B 46kg category to ensure East London left the tournament with three London champions.
The trio’s success now means that they have qualified for the nation pre quarter finals which take place at Turners Boxing Club in Camberley on Saturday, October 13.
