Waltham Abbey extended their losing run to three games after they were beaten 2-1 by Tooting & Mitcham United in Bostik League South Central Division.

Hady Ghandour’s double was enough for the Terrors, despite Abbey’s late attempt to get back in it through Christian Assombalonga’s goal.

Abbey made the brighter start and were unlucky not to be ahead early on through Billy Holland’s attempt, but Morgan Campbell was alert to keep it out.

It took only ten minutes for the hosts to take the lead as Ghandour superbly put away Peter Wedgeworth’s cross, and he also converted Stefan Ilic’s corner just before half-time to give the hosts a commanding lead.

Abbey continued to press for a way back into the game in the second period but didn’t fashion a decent chance until the 72nd minute – Ellis Brown, though, headed over from close range.

They weren’t to be denied nine minutes later, however, as Assombalonga pulled a goal back after a scramble in the box, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback, and Abbey had to settle for a third straight loss.

Their next opportunity to arrest their slide will come this Saturday (March 2) at home to Ashford Town (Middlesex).
