Waltham Abbey failed to win for the third game in a row as they were soundly beaten by Bostik League South Central Division champions Hayes and Yeading United.

Jack Stevenson and Ellis Brown made sure the defeat wasn’t as heavy as it could have been but ultimately any sort of positive results was going to be unlikely against a side who have lost just three times all season.

Chid Onokwai got the ball rolling for the hosts after only 11 minutes when he broke down the left and smashed past Anthony Page from a tight angle.

That’s how it stayed until well past the hour mark, at which point the floodgates opened.

Stevenson capitalised on a mis-kick by Connor Toomey to curl home an equaliser, but a quickfire brace from Elliot Benyon restored parity for the hosts and gave them some breathing space.

That lead was increased with nine minutes to go when Josh Chamberlain tapped home a fourth, and although Brown bundled home a consolation for Abbey, it did nothing to affect the result.

The visitors now sit ninth in the table with three games left to play, and next up is the visit of Westfield to Capershotts.
