West Essex continued to secure their place in mid-table of the Essex Senior League Senior Division with a 3-1 win over Barkingside last week.

The Stags were safely situated in the middle of the table with nothing to really play for other than the satisfaction of winning and achieving as high a finish as possible, while any lingering concerns of relegation for Barkingside had been dashed by Leyton Athletic succumbing to the drop.

Izzy Ogedi-Uzokwe, Sam McNally, Nick Walk, Hakim Medfai, Samraj Gill, and Sanchez Hardy were all recalled in a much-changed line-up for the home side following the goalless draw against Stanway Rovers.

West opened the scoring on 25 minutes when a lovely flowing move was finished off by Ogedi-Uzokwe as he tapped home at the near post/

With half-time approaching, Cameron Gray added a deserved second when some hesitation in the Barkingside defence was seized upon, and he was teed up to convert with the goal at his mercy.

Just before the hour mark, the game was made safe as teenager McNally surged forward and slid in Gray, and he notched his second of the evening with a composed finish.

Barkingside managed to get on the scoresheet when Isaac Marfo netted from the penalty spot against his former team, but it did little to alter the overall result.

Just two more games remain for West Essex this season; one in the league against Tower Hamlets this Saturday before they face Stansted in the Errington Challenge Cup Final at Bishop’s Stortford on Monday, May 6.
