Hasnan Ali of East London Boxing Academy continued his excellent streak against older, heavier opponents by beating Team England athlete Hanzla Hamza in the finals of the England and Wales Championships.

It was a big event for Ali, held at the Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, but he did not let the occasion get to him as he won every round against his opponent, impressing both the judges and the England selectors in the process.

Ali, coached by Umer Iqbal, was a comfortable winner, beating Hamza in slick fashion and making it look as though the Team England and regional champion titles were reversed.

At just 17, Ali has now won the under-19 tournament after boxing four times in four weeks against older, heavier opponents in his new super-heavyweight class.

Discussions were made earlier in the year about moving up in class and it has proved to be a successful decision.

Iqbal has now coaches seven London and four national champions across varying ages and weights over the last 12 months.
