ARSENE Wenger had a last gasp bid for Udinese midfielder Gokhan Inler rejected last night, according to press reports.

The Swiss midfielder was seen as the perfect solution to Wenger's midfielder crisis at the Emirates and has been reportedly a long term target for the Gunners, however the 24-year-old said that a move to north London was never on the cards.

"From the first day I always said I was sure of staying at Udinese. I want to go all the way with this club and play a great season." Inler revealed.

Wenger has seen influential midfieders, Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini and Gilberto Silva all leave the club this summer and seemed desperate to get at least one more player in as the transfer deadline loomed. It was also reported that Wenger had a bid for Xabi Alonso rejected and it now seems that he will be forced into the loan market - which closes next week.

Inler has played 32 times for the Italians, scoring two goals and has also recently been a regular starter for the Switzerland national side.
