AFTER missing out on top transfer targets Xabi Alonso and Gokhan Inler last night, at least Arsene Wenger signed up promising youngsters Mark Randall and Keiran Gibbs on new contracts.

The pair arrived at the Emirates in 2006 and after impressing in their first year with the Gunners they went on to sign professional terms in 2007. Both Randall and Gibbs spent time on loan with Championship sides last campaign and their continued development has persuaded Wenger to tie the duo down to longer deals.

Randall has made six appearances for the Arsenal first team after making his professional debut for the Gunners in 2006 against West Brom. And after an impressive loan spell with Burnley last season, the-18-year-old went on to play the north Londoners last game of the previous campaign against Sunderland and also made six appearances for the club in pre-season.

Gibbs, 18, made his first appearances for Arsene Wenger's men in last year's Carling Cup against Sheffield United and Blackburn and after a successful spell with Norwich he went on to play for the Gunners against Juventus in the Emirates cup in pre-season.
