CYCLING
HAINAULT Roads Club rider Paul Godfrey took a break from his usual time trial activties to compete in a road race at the brand new Hog Hill circuit in Redbridge.
The two-kilometre track has some arduous climbs and will prove to be a real test of riders' fitness.
After a previous practice experience which left him at the tail end of a flying bunch of riders, Godfrey remainewd in the peloton for the duration of the hour-long race.
Despite the circuit’s serpentine design catching the wind at many different points, and combined with it’s hilly location, Godfrey still had sufficient energy to make a final dash for the finish line after cresting the steepest part of the course immediately prior to it.
He finished in 16th position, easily within the first half of the field.
Elsewhere, Hainault's Brian Ward recorded a personal best in a VTTA 25-mile time trial on the E2 course near Newmarket.
He produced an outstanding time of 1hr 03mins 28secs over the distance to show that he is in his best condition of the year so far.
