MEXICAN hotshot Giovanni Dos Santos is aiming to fire Spurs into the Champions League this season, a feat they have been trying to achieve for years.

The Lillywhites have come close in recent seasons but have so far failed, to crack the impenetrable top four.

The former Barecelona attacking midfielder however, is adamant his new club must be in the mix for Champions League places come May.

''We have to try and get one of those top four spots, because we want to play Champions League football,'' he told FourFourTwo magazine.

The skilful 19-year-old has the belief his side has what it takes to play in Europe's top club competition next season.

''I joined a club that is working for this and I know we have the qualities to challenge the top four.''

Dos Santos who joined the north London club this summer is also looking to win a trophy with his new team-mates, as well as finishing in a high league position.

''I missed out on winning a trophy last season so I'd really like to win something this season with my new team.''

Tottenham's number 17 concedes however that a top four finish is the priority for last seasons Carling cup winners.

However if they are going to mount a serious challenge to England's elite clubs they need to start getting points on the board quickly. Dos Santos, who has played in all three of Spurs' Premier League games this season, has yet to taste victory in a white shirt.

Juande Ramos' side this season have lost two games, and drawn one, although this was at Chelsea. A result which will hopefully kick-start their season of high expectations.
