OLD LOUGHTONIANS men’s team remain on the winning trail after a five-star performance against one of the league’s stronger sides, Holcombe.

Loughts pulled ahead on 19 minutes through Leroy Phillips. Darren Cheeseman and Liam Doidge then looked to have put the hosts out of sight, but Holcombe got one back before the interval.

It proved to be nothing more than a blip as James Stedman deflected the ball in, and he scored again after collecting Ali Bray’s lofted pass.

The team take on Harleston Magpies next.

It took until the second half for Old Loughts ladies to get into their stride against St Albans.

They eventually breached the defences when Anna Coppel deflected Miranda Weeks’ effort into the net but St Albans were able to level.

The ladies take on Harleston Magpies on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Waltham Forest’s men made it six games without defeat when they saw off the challenge of Royston at the weekend.

Cillie Truter made it two goals in as many games to put Forest ahead before Nico Kurt’s powerful shot doubled the advantage.

Royston halved the deficit from a short corner but Forest were able to put the game to bed when Matt Tanswell found Luce Da Silva for the third.

The team will travel to face Fords this weekend.

Elsewhere, Waltham Forest’s ladies were held to a 1-1 draw at Tunbridge Wells in East Division One South.

Katharine Abbie gave the visitors the lead with a low shot, while the team had goalkeeper Mog Campbell to thank for preserving their advantage with four excellent saves, but she could not prevent the equaliser five minutes from time.

A disappointing weekend for the ladies was completed when they fell at the first hurdle of the England Hockey Trophy. Forest were beaten 3-2 by Banbury, although Anna Pearson scored twice for the local side.
