A woman was hit by a double decker bus during this morning's rush hour.
The bus collided with the pedestrian, a 17-year-old Walthasm Forest College student, in Forest Road, Walthamstow, near Thorpe Coombe Hospital, at 8.40am.
She suffered leg and pelvic injuries and is being treated at Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel for what are described as potentially life-changing injuries.
Witness said the woman was crossing the road when she was hit by a 123 bus heading towards Woodford New Road.
The front window of the bus was smashed by the impact.
Hafeez Janjua, 46, of Cassiobury Road in Walthamstow, was driving in Forest Road towards Blackhorse Road when he saw the accident.
He said: “I saw this woman walking across and then the front of the bus hit her.
"A lot of people came to her rescue. It looked as though the front corner of the bus is damaged.”
A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: "A Woman was taken to Royal London Hospital as a priority after being treated at the scene for leg and pelvic injuries. She was breathing and conscious."
Forest Road was blocked eastbound.
The 123, 212 and 275 bus services were placed on diversion.
