Peter Andre helped transform a ‘buddy hut’ into a bright, modern playhouse for children whose siblings are treated in a hospice.

Earlier this year, the singer and TV star brought the 60 Minute Makeover team to Haven House Hospice in Woodford Green.

The ITV1 show, was aired on Friday afternoon as part of the channel’s Text Santa charity appeal.

At the hospice there is a designated space for the siblings of un-well children.

All year round film nights, arts and crafts sessions and vital counselling and support services are held inside the hut.

Now, what started out as a plain hut in the woodland setting of Haven House has become a bright, modern and child-friendly space with the latest in audio-visual equipment.

After an £18k make-over there is a new arts and crafts area and colourful seating inside-and-out.

The TV crew brought Christmas to the children, families and staff on the day, providing snow, reindeer and a tree with presents for the children.

Lunch was served half-way through the day, with turkey and all the trimmings.

In between filming, the TV star met a number of Haven House children and families and discovered why the Buddies Hut is so important to them.

Nine-year-old Buddy, Aisha Davies from Hainault, who was filmed for the show said: “It was a brilliant day; me and my brother Kai got to meet Peter Andre and he was really nice.

“The Buddies hut is a really important place for me, it’s where I get to have fun, meet other kids who are going through the same stuff as me and talk to people who understand.”

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House said: “It was a real coup for the hospice to be involved with the show, in terms of the makeover to the hut and the awareness that this well-known show will bring to Haven House.

“Most importantly, however, is what this means to our siblings – an amazing, dedicated space where they can have fun and access vital support as and when they need it.”
