A second crowdfunding bid by a group of mothers to completely revamp a children's playground has reached its target of over £25,000 with hours to spare.

Wanstead Playground Association set the new target of £25,685 in March after it comfortably achieved its initial target of £14,000 to refurbish Wanstead Playground, on Christchurch Green.

And after receiving support from the public and companies such as Wanstead’s Tesco Express, which donated £2,710, the group of mothers have reached their next milestone, albeit with only four hours left of the crowdfund.

If the group had failed to reach their target in time it would not have had any access to the money.

With the funds, the group is set to install brand new play equipment, a new toddler-friendly play area, new safety flooring, and  more benches and seating areas.

Overall, the group hopes to raise between £80,000 and £100,000 in order to revamp the whole playground.

Designs for the new playground will be go to public consultation in autumn and the new equipment will be installed by spring 2016.

A volunteer playground clean-up and fence painting day is set to take place on June 10 from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
