FAMILIES living near a school playing field being used as an Olympic campsite have expressed their surprise at how quiet it is.
Households close to Forest School in College Place, Snaresbrook, found out about the plan to host visitors just nine days before they were due to arrive.
Some neighbours feared excited campers may make round-the-clock noise, but a week later have praised their behaviour.
Ida Lawrence, 84, of Coppice Way, said: "My husband and I are quite pleasantly surprised.
"There is no noise, no traffic - the campers are really no bother at all."
Fay Kaye, 81, also of Coppice Way, said: "It has been absolutely wonderful so far.
"I intend to write a letter to the school and say all our misgivings were unfounded."
Eleanor O'Hare, 54, of Cheyne Avenue, said: "There was some noise there the other day, but I'm not busting a gut over it."
The playing field has 100 tents being used by Olympics volunteers.
