WANSTEAD: Pupils at Wanstead High got involved in a range of cultural activities from across the world as part of the annual Creativity Festival

IMAGINATIVE youngsters at Wanstead High School have got creative to learn more about different cultures from across the globe.

Staff and pupils from the school, in Redbridge Lane West, paid a visit to a restaurant in London’s China Town, made their own instruments and designed Afghan-style carpets as part of the annual Creativity Festival - based on the theme:‘Around the World in 80 Ways.’

Other highlights of the event, which has been held for the past six years, included youngsters testing out their athletic skills in 80 different sports and staging a Brazilian-style carnival.

School arts coordinator, Tracey Phillipson, said: “The students all really enjoyed the chance to display their creativity and investigate a very varied selection of subjects.

“The festival is a great opportunity for our staff and students to work with other organisations, and this year we were able to invite Afghan Action into the school to talk about their charity which has set up a carpet factory and training school in Afghanistan.

“Amnesty International also led a team investigating human rights around the world while Film Club invited some of our students to a special preview screening at BAFTA.

“This is as always a wonderful way to end the school year, giving our students the chance to visit some great attractions in London and come back and share their experiences with some very entertaining performances.”
