A RECORD number of pupils at a Woodford Green school have received offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge universities.
A total of nine A level students at Trinity Catholic High School in Mornington Road now have conditional offers for places, beating the previous record of six.
Head of sixth form, Rob Healey, said: “What these students have achieved is absolutely fantastic and we are extremely proud of them.
“Those who secure an offer from Oxford or Cambridge are amongst the brightest and most able young men and women anywhere.”
George Green, 18, is hoping to study classical archaeology and ancient history at Christ Church College, Oxford.
He said: “The offer came as a relief from the anxious weeks of waiting. I feel privileged to have the chance to go to Oxford and potentially to hear Jeremy Paxman [on University Challenge] one day say: ‘Green. Christ Church’.”
Katie Mills will study law at Cambridge’s Queen’s College if she achieves the results she needs.
The 17-year-old said: “I have always had an ambition to study at Cambridge but, when I applied, I did not seriously think I stood a chance.
“The feeling I got when I opened my letter made the months of preparation worth it.”
Basim Ali, 18, hopes to study medicine at King’s College, Cambridge, while James Ferryman has been offered the opportunity to study the same subject at the university’s Queens’ College.
Rebecca Crossman, 18, has been offered a place to study maths at Cambridge, while 18-year-old Chad Hall hopes to study Linguistics at the same university.
Martin Laffey, 18, is looking forward to studying biological sciences at Oxford and Emily Ranken, 17, has been offered a place to study English and education at Homerton College, Cambridge.
Matthew Pereira, 17, hopes to get the grades to study Maths at Cambridge.
