The elderly pedestrian hit and killed by a police car in the Ridgeway, Chingford, is identified as Brian Elton

THE pedestrian hit and killed by a police car has been formally identified as 72-year-old Brian Elton.

Mr Elton, who lived in the Chingford area, was hit by a marked Vauxhall Astra on an emergency call in the Ridgeway, Chingford, shortly after 1pm yesterday.

Mr Elton was taken by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital, in Whitechapel, but died four hours after the accident.

A post-mortem is expected to take place in the next few days.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission was informed of the incident but it will not take further action.

The Met Police Directorate of Professional Standards is investigating.
