DAGENHAM and Redbridge boss John Still believes his side are more than capable of getting past League One Hereford and making it through to the second round of the FA Cup.

The Daggers put in a stirling performance at Edgar Street at the weekend and have been given the incentive of a lucrative tie at Leicester City should they squeeze past Graham Turner's men at Victoria Road next week.

Indeed, Still was adamant his side showed enough quality to overcome the Bulls at the first time of asking.

“I thought we deserved to win the game,” he said. “Our second half performance was very strong and the least we deserved was a replay from the game.

“But we always head into our home games with confidence, believing that we can do a good job, irrespective of who we play.”

The side's performance against Hereford was one born out of confidence, which has been steadily rising amongst the players after making a superb start to the season.

The team are sitting just outside the play-off places in League Two and only four points off the leaders.

It has been a remarkable rise through the ranks, and one not too dissimilar from last week's opponents, who have enjoyed an ascent from the conference up to the third tier in English football.

However, Still is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and is delighted with what his side have achieved under his reign.

“When I arrived my job was to keep the team in the conference as finances were tight,” he said.

“Everyone at the club can't believe where we are now with the resources we've had.

“We've more than overachieved and it's been absolutely fantastic. If I can say in five or six years' time that we are an established football league club then I would be extremely happy.”

Should the Daggers reach the next round and secure a tie at the Walker Stadium, it would represent a unique opportunity to pit their wits against one of the giants of League One.

But Still insists he hasn't allowed his mind to drift that far ahead.

“I've not given it (the game with Leicester) a thought,” insisted the manager. “It's the last thing on my mind.

“We have a tough game against Luton and the replay with Hereford first, then I'll start thinking about Leicester if we get through.”
