Tottenham are readying a monster summer bid for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.

Head coach Andre Villas-Boas believes Spurs are just one or two major signings away from having a title-winning team and has made securing a world-class centre forward his priority.

Higuain, who has scored ten goals this season in 27 appearances, has told officials he wants to leave Spain at the end of the season and Spurs are ready to break the club's transfer record to secure the Argentine's signature.

Tottenham's record outlay was £17m signing David Bentley but Madrid would want upwards of £20m for Higuain even though they are open to the 25-year-old leaving as they are confident of sealing a deal for Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish giants would be keen on including Higuain in a package deal for much-wanted winger Gareth Bale but Spurs are not keen on that option and would prefer a straight cash transfer.
