Manchester United are keen to sign West Ham United defender Winston Reid in a cut-price £4m deal this January, according to the Daily Mail.

With the January transfer window opening in 48 hours, the Red Devils are understood to be interested in signing the New Zealand international, whose contract expires at the end of June.

Reid, 26, has opened contract talks with the Hammers but is understood to be holding out for more than £60,000 per week in wage - a figure the club are not prepared to meet.

The former Midtjylland centre half has missed just one Premier League fixture this term and has made more than 100 league appearances since joining the Hammers from the Danish outfit in 2010.
