CONTROLLED Parking Zones (CPZs) will be introduced in three Walthamstow streets following a consultation.

The survey of 16 roads in Chapel End ward found that 13 did not want new permit restrictions.

However a majority of respondents voted yes in Spruce Hills Road and Kingsley Road.

The result was split evenly in Clifford Road, with seven households voting yes and seven voting no, although it too will be included in a new scheme with Kingsley Road.

The figures have been revealed by Labour ward councillor Paul Douglas on his blog.

He says the new restrictions will be in force between 10am and 4pm between Mondays and Fridays, with residents having to pay £22.50p to £120 annually - if they have one car - for a permit.

The consultation caused controversy because the council claimed that "many" households had requested it.

But anti-CPZ campaigners discovered only 13 people had asked for new restrictions in the ward, which they estimate has 1,600 households.

In total, the consultation had a response rate of 41 per cent.

Across all streets, 17 per cent of respondents voted yes to a CPZ and 83 per cent voted no.

Cllr Douglas wrote on his website that the scheme would be reviewed in six months time.

Meanwhile the council has still not revealed the nine streets where it is considering introducing CPZ restrictions in Leytonstone and Leyton following a similar consultation, which found the overwhelming majority of respondents were against parking permits.
