A development which was officially opened last week will offer affordable housing for almost 100 families.

Gilwell Hill on the Epping Forest border with Chingford is made up of 119 two, three and four bed properties, 80 percent of which will be made available for those struggling to afford their own home.

The site, which was formerly used as dog kennels for Walthamstow Dog Track, includes 57 affordable homes, 38 houses for shared ownership and a local shop and community centre.

Epping Forest District Council has been working alongside private sector businesses to ensure the provision of affordable homes for people in the district.

Councillor David Stallan, Housing Portfolio Holder at EFDC said that Gilwell Hill is an example of the standard of housing that the council hopes to create.

He said: “This development represents the coming together of a number of partners who have the same common goal, to build exceptional affordable homes for the residents of Epping Forest.

“Gilwell Hill is a shining example of what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together and as a result our residents will be able to benefit from a range of environmentally friendly homes and important local facilities.”
