Campaigners walked to highlight fears that protected green spaces are under threat from development.
A total of 50 people took part in the ‘Walk for a Wild Marshes’ event on Sunday, organised by the Save Lea Marshes (SLM) group.
Member Julian Cheyne said the group opposes any reduction in publicly accessible land off Lea Bridge Road, which incorporates Walthamstow and Leyton Marshes.
The walk began at Leyton Marsh, passed the Essex Wharf development next to the Lea Navigation and continued to North Hackney Marshes, the Waterworks and the mural under the railway bridge near the Coppermill Lane car park.
SLM member Kev Dovey said: “The walk is important to show people the areas potentially affected by proposed development.
“Often people don't know about plans, or know about them when it's too late so this walk will help to highlight to marsh users what the various authorities are planning to do to our land.”
