A business specialising in neon signs for Hollywood films and collectors will stay in Walthamstow thanks to a market owner.
Julie Davis and Chris Longbridge, owners of Wood Street Indoor Market, have stepped in to offer a new home to God’s Own Junkyard, after its studio in Vallentin Road was bought by developers.
The business is, according to Time Out, the UK’s equivalent of the Neon Boneyard in Las Vegas, attracting visitors from all over the world.
God’s Own Junkyard artist Chris Bracey has been creating and collecting pieces for 37 years and has provided props for films such as Eyes Wide Shut, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Batman for the last 37 years.
Mr Bracey must vacate the current premises at the end of September, which leaves Julie Davis just a few weeks to prepare a derelict space in the market which is currently full of old building materials.
She said: “It’s a massive amount of work just to get the space empty.
“The roof leaks and the electrics need sorting.
“I’ll have to spend money to make it safe, but I’m going to do it to get them in.”
