Detectives are appealing for information after a man was hit by a robber on the Tube.

The 29-year-old victim, from Ilford, was standing on a Central line train at Bethnal Green station when he was approached by two men.

One of them demanded he hand over his mobile phone before threatening to stab him.

The man tried to escape by getting off the train but as he did one of the men grabbed him and hit him, before he managed to get away.

It happened at around 11.45pm on Sunday August 4.

British Transport Police (BTP) has released CCTV images of two men they want to question.

Detective Sergeant Lisa Baptiste, investigating officer, said: "If you recognise these two men, or have any information that could help our investigation, please contact us.”

A BTP spokesman added: "Anyone with information should contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference B7/LUA of 03/09/13.

"Alternatively call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
