Explosions, simulated emergencies and fire demonstrations are being put on to see how the district’s residents cope in extreme situations.

On Sunday, the North Weald Airfield Fun Day and the Resilience Roadshow will put families to the ultimate test, as well as providing all-day entertainment.

Bringing together a wide range of emergency services, public agencies, volunteer groups and charities, Epping Forest District Council is trying to encourage visitors to consider how they could prepare for the unexpected.

Throughout the day historic planes and classic cars will be on show, hoping to wow the crowds.

Visitors can fill sandbags, witness casualty extraction demonstrations, see how dangerous cooking chips can be and even get a fake wound or injury.

The Army Explosives Ordnance Division will be demonstrating search techniques and giving people an opportunity to find dummy explosive devices.

The Red Cross will be providing practical First Aid advice and teaching simple CPR techniques.

A number of helicopters will there for the day and helicopter pleasure flights are available.

Tickets are £5 but a £15.50 ticket includes free travel on the Epping & Ongar Railway for the day, and is also available online, at http://northwealdairfieldfunday.com/.

Proceeds from the day are going to the St Clare Hospice at Hastingwood and Help for Heroes.
