A giant piece of outdoor artwork has appeared at the side of the M11.

The Woodland Trust’s £45,000 project made from two-metre high ridges of earth can be seen from the M11 on the edge of Theydon Bois.

Work began on the 130-metre long sculpture, by artist Richard Harris, in September last year and was funded by a grant from Greenarc.

After the planned official unveiling on Wednesday, visitors will be able to walk along the tops of the curved mounds.

Mr Harris said: “I was inspired by the history of Epping and Hainault forests and their links to London. The paths are visible when driving north on the motorway, drawing attention to the new woodland.

“These paths will each be planted with a different species of tree, to form avenues, that as they grow will create a different character and atmosphere."

Tony Chadwick, Woodland Trust site manager, said: "This is a project we've been waiting to get started on for several years so we're delighted to finally unveil it. The result is striking and will provide a real talking point for visitors to the wood."
