An unconscious woman has been taken to hospital with head injuries after being trapped in her car following a three-vehicle crash.
The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was taken to Queen's Hopsital in Romford at around 8.20am.
The M11 was closed in both directions to allow an air ambulance to land, after fire crews were able to cut the woman free from her car. However, she was then taken to hospital by ambulance.
Emergency services were called at around 7.10am, which took place between junction 5, Chigwell Lane, and junction 4, North Circular Road.
The M11 northbound has now reopened but southbound remains closed and was expected to open again at around 10.15am, with thousands of drivers reportedly still at a standstill.
The incident was originally reported to involve six vehicles but this was later reduced to three.
