A Turner Prize-winning artist’s exhibition in Walthamstow has opened to the public.
Jeremy Deller’s William Morris-inspired English Magic at the William Morris Gallery is the first opportunity in the UK to see the artist’s installation for the 2013 Venice Biennale.
The Forest Road gallery is the first stop on the show’s national tour.
One of the images, We Sit Starving Amidst our Gold, depicts Morris throwing Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich’s enormous yacht into a Venetian lagoon.
“For me William Morris is a fascinating character who wore his heart on his sleeve, mixing politics and art in a way no one has managed since,” Deller said.
“William Morris Gallery seemed the perfect place to start the tour – it just makes sense.”
The exhibition runs until March 30.
