A plea has been made to dog owners who do not clear up after their pets before the animals are banned from a cemetery.
There is a long-running problem with dog mess being left in the Love Lane site.
Council vice-chairman Brian Surtees believes anyone who does not clean up after their pet is showing disrespect to visiting families.
He said: “The cemetery is a consecrated place and relatives deserve to have it treated with the respect it merits.”
The cemetery is often used as a short cut to the Queen Elizabeth II recreation field at Love Lane.
At the moment the situation is being monitored by cemetery staff, but the council says that it will ban dogs if the problem continues.
