A talented nine-year-old is the youngest person on record to pass a high-level drumming exam.

Jake Omer, who attends Loyola Preparatory School in Palmerston Road, Buckhurst Hill, has passed his Grade six drumming exam and the examining body, Rockschool, confirmed it knows of no one younger to reach the level.

Jake started drumming using pots and pans before his parents bought him his first kit aged five.

Jake, who also plays piano and guitar, said: “I was a bit nervous but I’m happy I passed.”

His father Adam, 39, said: “We’re very proud of him.

“At age three he showed he had rhythm and could keep a good beat going and he used anything that would make a sound.”

Jake has appeared on Britian’s Got Talent and has also performed alongside Ian Matthews of Kasabian while on a course at the Brighton institute of Modern Music.

Most drummers reach the grade when aged 18 during A Level studies.

The Loughton Music Academy student is now recruiting for his band, The Impossibles, with a view to performing a live concert in front of parents.

Jake is currently studying for his Grade two piano exam as well as his grade seven drumming exam.
